Most of us escaped today without seeing any severe weather, I say most because Vernon & Beauregard Parishes were under Severe Thunderstorm Warnings this morning. Read the rest of this entry »

There is a tornado watch currently in effect until 1:00 pm for the following parishes: Acadia, Allen, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Evangeline, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Rapides, Vermillion, Vernon; as well as the Texas counties in SE Texas. I think the greatest threat of severe weather will be just north of our area, but that in no way means we are clear. A line of thunderstorms called a squall line will roll through here in the next few hours bringing heavy rain at times, strong gusty winds, hail and possible tornadoes. Stay tuned to KPLC TV and KPLC Weather Plus on Cox Cable channel 247 or digital channel 7.2. We will keep you posted of any changes in this situation.

U.S., EUROPE TAKE STEPS TO ADVANCE POLAR SATELLITE COOPERATION
Feb. 23, 2006 — NOAA and the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites, or EUMETSAT, announced Wednesday they have signed a Data Denial Implementation Plan, which secures the continued flow of real-time meteorological satellite data from NOAA-provided instruments onboard EUMETSAT’s MetOp spacecraft to public duty users in the United States and EUMETSAT Member States during episodes that might otherwise require data denial. ………More Wet Weather………
Scattered showers have returned to the area today and we could see a couple of inches of rain between Friday evening and Saturday evening. The weather service has put out this statement:
… Soaking rains expected tonight into Saturday…
Gulf breezes upgliding over cooler air in place across the upper
Gulf Coast states will maintain an intermittent rain tonight. This
stable rain, in general, will be light to moderate in intensity.
A Canadian cold front will be moving through northern Louisiana
Saturday morning, pushing and lifting deep moisture, now in place
from the previous rains. Showers and thunderstorms will be the
result. This convective rain may be heavy at times. Afternoon
temperatures will be running in the low to mid 60s.
The rains will taper off Saturday evening, as the cold front exits
the coastal waters, coming to end after midnight. Rainfall totals
will range, from about 1 inch across the coastal marshes, to
around 2 inches along the Toledo Bend to Alexandria corridor.
Stay dry, hopefully we’ll be able to get in the Mardi Gras stuff this Saturday. Have a good one and tune into KPLC for the latest on any severe weather.
